? After failing to put down a bunt to cover a double steal in the first inning, Chaley Brickey atoned with a three-run homer to spark Kansas University to a 10-2, run-rule-shortened softball victory over Illinois State at the Aquafina Invitational on Sunday.

The top three hitters in the order had nine of KU’s 14 hits. Lily Behrmann, Kansas’ No. 2 batter, wasn’t retired and had four hits.

“If your top of the order is on, like they were today, we’re going to score a lot of runs,” Kansas coach Megan Smith said. “I can’t say enough about Lily’s performance. She did a great job hitting it hard, laying down a bunt, mixing things in. I thought she looked phenomenal today.”

Kansas (14-1) led 3-0 after one, 4-0 after two, then added six in the fourth.

Illinois State (6-9) scored both its runs in the third.

Leadoff hitter Briana Evans went 3-for-4 with three runs, while Brickey was 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Chanin Naudin and Daniella Chavez each added two hits. Chavez had three RBIs.

Kansas will return to Florida next weekend for a tournament at North Florida in Jacksonville.
