After competing in its first Final Four in school history on Thursday night — a four-set loss to No. 4 seed Nebraska in Omaha — the Kansas University volleyball team is expected to return to Lawrence around 5 p.m. today.
According to a news release from KU Athletics, Jayhawk fans and media members are invited to welcome the most successful team in program history back to Lawrence with a reception at Horejsi Family Athletics Center at that time.
A little less than a week ago, KU fans packed Horejsi to welcome home the Final Four-bound KU volleyball team upon its return from San Diego after the Jayhawks knocked off top-seeded USC in the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight.
Kansas finished its magical season with a 30-3 record, reached its first Elite Eight and Final Four and fielded the first two first-team All-Americans in program history as sophomores Ainise Havili and Kelsie Payne recorded their hardware at a banquet Friday morning in Omaha before the team hit the road.
