Kansas coach Bill Self talks to the media outside the Jayhawks' locker-room Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the CenturyLink Center, Omaha, Neb.

There will be summertime basketball in Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kansas University’s basketball team, as coach Bill Self first mentioned at Monday’s season-ending banquet, will play Team Canada in a pair of exhibition games to prepare KU and Canada for the World University Games.

The Jayhawks, who will represent the United States in the World Games (July 3-14, South Korea), will square off with Canada at 7 p.m., June 23 and 7 p.m., June 26 in Sprint Center. Self said the games will not be played in Allen Fieldhouse because KU’s building is not air-conditioned. There would likely be sauna-like conditions with fans packing the building that time of year.

Tickets are currently available for purchase by Williams Fund members. A two-game ticket package costs $50. General public sales will begin on May 13.

The Jayhawks will be allowed to field a 12-man roster for the Games. The roster will include any incoming recruits and/or transfers who are from the U.S. KU’s Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk cannot play for the KU/USA team because he is a native of Ukraine.

The Canadian team is the one that will participate in the World University Games, thus is not the national team that will include former KU player Andrew Wiggins.

Even though KU was selected by the U.S. International University Sports Federation, the Jayhawk athletic department is responsible for all costs associated with the trip. KU officials said proceeds from these two exhibition games will help fund these expenses.

The World University Games and two exhibitions will feature FIBA rules including four, 10-minute quarters and a 24-second shot clock.

Diallo MVP again: KU recruiting target Cheick Diallo, who was MVP of the McDonald’s All-America Game, was co-MVP of Friday’s Jordan Brand Classic in New York. Diallo, a 6-9, 220-pound senior from Our Savior New American in Centereach, New York, scored 26 points off 12-of-16 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds in the East’s 118-116 loss to the West. Future Arizona player Allonzo Trier had 28 points for the West and shared MVP with Diallo.

ESPN’s broadcast crew indicated that KU coach Bill Self was to have a meeting with Diallo after the game, with St. John’s to make a final pitch today and Kentucky on Monday. He’s also considering Iowa State and Pitt.

“Nobody knows where I go to college,” Diallo told Zagsblog.com after the game.

KU recruiting target Malik Newman also played (8 points), while Jaylen Brown sat out the contest because of a sore hip. Newman, 6-4 from Callaway High in Jackson, Mississippi, is considering KU, Kentucky, LSU, N.C. State, Mississippi and Mississippi State. Brown, 6-7 from Wheeler High in Marietta, Georgia, is considering KU, Cal, UCLA, Kentucky, Michigan, Georgia, Georgia Tech and North Carolina.

KU coaches are slated to meet with Brandon Ingram, 6-8 forward from Kinston (North Carolina) High, today, according to Zagsblog.com.
