Kansas University senior Jimmay Mundine kept his strong season going during last week’s 34-21 loss at Texas Tech and the representatives at the John Mackey Award recognized it and threw some praise Mundine’s way Wednesday morning.
Mundine grabbed a career-best seven receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown in last week’s loss, which earned him an honorable mention nod from the Mackey Award for national tight end of the week. Earlier this month, Mundine was one of 33 tight ends named to the 2014 Mackey Midseason Watch List.
Casey Pierce of Kent State was named Tight End of the Week, while EJ Bibbs of Iowa State, Jake Duzey of Iowa, Joel Ruiz of Georgia State and Nick Vannett of Ohio State joined Mundine as honorable mention honorees.
Mundine leads all Big 12 Conference tight ends and ranks seventh nationally among the position group with 294 receiving yards on 23 catches. He is averaging 12.8 yards per catch.
The 2014 John Mackey recipient will be announced on December 10, 2014 and presented live on December 11, 2014 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. Other key dates include the announcement of the the Mackey Semi-finalists on November 17, 2014 and the Mackey Finalists on November 24, 2014.
