Austin, Texas ? Third-ranked Texas swept Kansas, 25-20, 25-23, 25-18, on Saturday in Big 12 volleyball.
The Longhorns, who clinched their fourth consecutive league championship last week, improved to 22-1 overall and 14-1 in conference play. The Jayhawks fell to 20-8 and 8-6.
It was the first time KU was swept in a Big 12 match since Oct. 12, 2012, also against Texas. The sweep was Texas’ 14th of the season.
“At 23-all, we just needed to make a couple plays in the second set to really change the complexion of the match,” KU coach Ray Bechard said. “We could’ve done a better job out of the locker room in the third set, but we dug ourselves a hole. We were out of character for us, but playing a big-time opponent can create different issues. Congratulations to them, not only on their Big 12 title, but also on playing a good match today.”
Chelsea Albers had 16 kills, 11 digs and three blocks for KU. Sophomore libero Cassie Wait added 15 digs, and freshman setter Ainise Havili had 33 assists.
The Jayhawks will host West Virginia on Wednesday.
