KU-OU kickoff pushed back to 12:30 p.m.

? Kickoff for today’s football game between Kansas University and No. 23 Oklahoma has been delayed at least an hour and a half.

Stadium officials announced just before 9 a.m. that the kickoff, originally scheduled for 11 a.m., would be pushed back to 12:30 p.m. Heavy rains pounded the area overnight and continued into the morning hours. Standing water is present all over OU’s campus and dark, heavy clouds remain hanging over the stadium with flashes of lightning occasionally popping.

A KU official told the Journal-World that the delay is not expected to impact FOX Sports 1’s television broadcast of today’s game but added that things could change if the delay pushes past 12:30.

This marks the first weather delay of the 2014 season for KU but far from the first for the program. In three of the past four seasons, at least one of KU’s dozen football games has been impacted by weather, both at home and on the road.

The Jayhawks (3-7 overall, 1-6 Big 12) are looking to keep their recent hot stretch going against the Sooners (7-3, 4-3), who fell out of the national polls a week ago but jumped back in this week after a road win at Texas Tech last weekend.

Kansas enters today on the heels of a near-upset of No. 5 TCU at home and a home victory over Iowa State a week earlier.
