Fayetteville, Ark. ? Four Kansas University track-and-field athletes advanced, and one qualified for the NCAA Championships on Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminary.
KU’s Sydney Conley earned a trip to the NCAAs after she placed fifth in the long jump with a final leap of 6.25 meters (20 feet, 6 1/4 inches).
She will compete in the long jump final on June 11 in Eugene, Oregon.
Also Thursday, Michael Stigler earned a trip to today’s quarterfinals in the 400-meter hurdles after he qualified first in 49.84; Tianna Valentine made today’s quarterfinals in the 100 (11.59); and Whitney Adams moved on to today’s quarters in the 800 (2:08.21).
Brendan Soucie (1:50.46 in the 800 meters), Diamond Dixon (54.43 in the 400) and Casey Bowen (34th in pole vault) failed to advance.
