Lubbock, Texas ? Daina Levy placed fourth in the hammer throw, and Kansas University collected a pair of fifth-place finishes on the men’s side Friday, opening day of the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Levy was fourth at 58.95 meters (193 feet, 5 inches), and Kianna Weinzheimer was sixth in the javelin at 46.17 meters (151-6).
Also on the women’s side, Lindsay Vollmer took the first-day lead in the heptathlon with a career-beset first-day score of 3,597 points.
KU’s women were in a tie for fifth with nine points, while the men were sixth with eight.
Johann Swanepoel took fifth in the javelin (63.74 meters, 209-1) for the KU men, and Evan Landes was fifth in the 10,000 in 30:33.84.
The meet continues today and concludes Sunday.
