Kansas University sophomore second baseman Colby Wright was named to the Academic All-Big 12 second team, the league announced Thursday.

“He has emerged here in his sophomore year as one of the best offensive players at his position in the Big 12 Conference,” KU coach Ritch Price said. “He has been an impact player for us.”

Wright was one of 65 athletes honored by the Big 12. To qualify, players must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher — either cumulative or the two previous semesters — and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests.
