Kansas University fifth-year senior Alex Jones earned the Big 12’s Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year award, the league announced Wednesday.

Jones, a 3.8-GPA exercise-science graduate, earned the conference’s top academic honor a year after former Jayhawk teammate Maggie Hull claimed the honor.

“Alex has always exemplified what it means to be a true scholar athlete,” KU coach Megan Smith said. “She has been a huge reason for our success on the field and brings that same work ethic to classroom and community.”
