KU TE Jimmay Mundine to miss some practice time

Senior tight end Jimmay Mundine will miss a couple of weeks of practice while recovering from a “minor procedure” he had performed on his knee on Monday, Kansas University football coach Charlie Weis announced today.

Mundine, KU’s 6-foot-2, 240-pound, first-string tight end who is expected to play a major role in this year’s offense, “had his knee cleaned up” and is expected to miss two weeks of practice time at preseason camp.

The injury is not believed to be at all serious and the time off should not have a negative impact on the veteran Mundine, who will be able to attend practice and take part in mental reps and bringing along the younger tight ends.

Senior Trent Smiley (6-4, 240), red-shirt freshman Ben Johnson (6-5, 235) and sophomore Jordan Shelley-Smith (6-5, 245) will take more reps in Mundine’s absence, with Florida transfer Kent Taylor, who has to sit out the 2014 season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules, also getting in the mix.
