Creighton University’s women’s basketball team challenged Kansas at every turn Sunday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse, but the Jayhawks always had an answer in a 74-66 victory.
Junior forward Chelsea Gardner took over in the first half after the Bluejays jumped out to an early lead, and finished with 24 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks.
When Creighton (2-2) rallied late in the first half to cut the KU lead to 36-33 at the break, Kansas guards Lamaria Cole and Asia Boyd responded in the second half by pushing the ball in transition to manufacture easy baskets for themselves and their teammates.
Cole had 12 points and a pair of steals in the Jayhawks win, and Boyd put up 19 points, four rebounds and three assists as Kansas improved to 3-0 on the season.
KU plays its first road game of the season Wednesday at Minnesota.
