KU’s Bergmann gets academic nod

Kansas University senior thrower Heather Bergmann was one of 15 collegians named to the Capital One Academic All-America Women’s Track & Field First Team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Bergmann, a chemistry major, registered a 3.91 grade-point average in her senior year. In addition to being a standout thrower for the Jayhawks, she is a three-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team and was named to the Academic All-America Second Team following the 2012 season.

The Concordia native is a three-time first-team All-American in the javelin. Most recently she finished sixth in the javelin at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships and third at the 2013 Big 12 Outdoor Championships before concluding her KU career with an eighth-place finish at the USA Championships last week.
