KU track racks up All-Americans


Kansas University’s women’s track and field team earned a nation’s-best 16 first-team All-America awards this outdoor season.

The first-team awards by the national-champion Jayhawks were: Paris Daniels, three awards (200 meters, 4X100 relay and 4X400 relay); Andrea Geubelle, two awards (long jump, triple jump); Lindsay Vollmer (heptathlon); Heather Bergmann (javelin); Alena Krechyk (hammer); Jessica Maroszek (discus); Natalia Bartnovskaya (pole vault); 4X400 relay team (Daniels, Diamond Dixon, Denesha Morris, Taylor Washington); and the 4X100 relay team (Dixon, Morris. Daniels, Tianna Valentine).

Christen Guenther was a second-team pick in the pole vault, and Dixon was a second-team in the 400. Sydney Conley was honorable mention in the long jump.

On the men’s side, KU’s Michael Stigler was a first-team All-American in the 400 hurdles. Second-teamers were Kyle Clemons (400) and the 4X400 relay team of Clemons, Stigler, DeMario Johnson and Kenneth McCuin.

Casey Bowen (pole vault), Jonathan Miller (discus) and Jesse Vaughn (javelin) were honorable mention.

Accolades keep coming! Congrats again to men's and women's track! Hope the new facilities are as top-notch as you have been! This program deserves the best!

This is awesome indeed. And in a year or so the returning athletes will have great new facilities at Jayhawk Park. These are good times
