Charleston, S.C. ? Kansas University’s women’s tennis team improved to 3-1 in dual play Friday, defeating Charleston Southern, 6-1.
The Jayhawks swept the Buccaneers in doubles before taking five of six singles matches. The only loss came in a third-set tiebreaker, when CSU’s Marketa Placha defeated freshman Maria Jose Cardona, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Kansas took a pair of close matches in both singles and doubles to seal the win. In singles, junior Paulina Los beat Charleston Southern’s Alia Nour, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6), and in doubles, junior Haley Fournier and freshman Anastasija Trubica fought past Placha and Susita Das, 9-7.
Today, the Jayhawks will remain in Charleston to take on No. 67 College of Charleston and try to knock off their first ranked opponent since 2011.
