By Staff Reports     Dec 7, 2013

The NCAA will present Kansas University track and field alumnus and Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills with its highest honor, the Theodore Roosevelt Award, the organization announced Friday.

The award is given annually to an individual “for whom competitive athletics in college and attention to physical well-being thereafter have been important factors in a distinguished career of national significance and achievement.”

Mills, a standout KU athlete from 1958 to 1961 and the winner of the 1964 Olympics’ 10,000-meter run, will accept the award on Jan. 17, 2014, in San Diego. He has been a member of the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame since 1976 and, in February, received the Presidential Citizens Medal, the second highest civilian honor in the United States.
