KU swimmer misses Olympic Trials cut

By Staff Reports     Jun 29, 2012

? Outgoing Kansas senior captain Stephanie Payne finished her final career swim in the second heat of the 200 fly preliminaries with a 2:18.38 time on Thursday at the U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials. Payne finished in third place for her heat and 87th overall. The time was not enough to advance her to the semifinals.

Payne leaves KU as the school record holder in the 200 fly (1:59.07) and the 400 IM (4:11.94).

As Payne ends her competitive career, a pair of incoming Jayhawks are just beginning theirs. Chelsie Miller will compete in her third and final event, the 200 breast, while Topeka native Haley Molden will compete in her first trials event, the 100 free.
