Columbia, Mo. ? Kansas held fourth place among five teams after Friday’s events in the Big 12 women’s swimming championships.
Led by Stephanie Payne and Sophiia Filatova, KU is 20 points ahead of Iowa State heading into the final day of the meet. The two swimmers both claimed seventh-place finishes Friday night at Mizzou Aquatic Center.
Payne was seventh in the 400 individual medley in 4:17.91, and Filatova took seventh in the 100 butterfly in 54.25.
Texas A&M leads the meet, followed by Texas, Missouri, Kansas and Iowa State.
“The meet itself, not just KU, has not been the fastest meet,” KU coach Clark Campbell said. “The times are just not reflective of a Big 12 meet. So we just have to rise above it and really compete at a high level.”
