West Virginia — On the southern edge of Pittsburgh market (23) and just outside Charleston-Huntington (65).

Recent football history:

Louisville — Snapped three-year streak without a bowl appearance by winning Beef O’Brady’s Bowl last season against Southern Miss, 31-28, wrapping up a 7-6 year. Currently 3-4, headed into game with Syracuse. One BCS appearance: beat Wake Forest 24-13 in 2007 Orange Bowl.

West Virginia — Has finished not lower than second place in the Big East for nine straight seasons, and has won or shared the league title five times in the last eight years. One of four major college football schools to have won at least nine games in each of the last six years. Ended last season 9-4 after losing the Champs Sports Bowl to North Carolina State, 23-7. Currently 5-2 headed into game at Rutgers. Two BCS appearances: beat Georgia 38-35 in the 2006 Sugar Bowl and beat Oklahoma 48-28 in 2008 Fiesta Bowl.
