Looking at KU 11’s on 11-11

By Staff Reports     Nov 11, 2011

At 11:11 and 11 seconds this morning or at 11:11 and 11 seconds tonight, when the calendar reads 11/11/11, Kansas University basketball fans might want to reflect on the contributions of some former Jayhawks who made the school proud back when they wore No. 11.

Late great Otto Schnellbacher, known as the Double Threat from Sublette because he played both football and basketball, wore the number on the basketball court from 1946-48. Pass-first point guards Mark Turgeon (1984-87), Jacque Vaughn (1994-97) and Aaron Miles (2002-05) also wore No. 11.

Aishah Sutherland wears it for the women’s basketball team that opens its season at 2 p.m. Sunday in Allen Fieldhouse against Western Michigan. Senior A.J. Steward, No. 11 and a reserve tight end, plays his final home game Saturday in Memorial Stadium against Baylor for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
