Favorite call - Bob Davis' call of Mario's Miracle.
2nd place - Denny Mathew's call of George Brett's homerun against the Yankees in the 2000 Playoffs.

Um, I think your decades are off.
Russ Freeman 10 years, 6 months ago
Just off by 20 years. My bad.
Funhawk 10 years, 6 months ago
Bob Davis is the best. I like after the Hawks score a bucket: "S C O R E D!" Bob Davis sounds like a Kansan.
Robert Brown 10 years, 6 months ago
George Brett's HR off of Goose Gossage in 1980 was one of my favorite calls. I thought Fred White made the call, but I may be wrong. If someone has the link to that call, I would love to hear it again.
The Bob Davis call of Mario's shot was 'interrupted' by a cheering Chris Piper.

Look for Gill to blame a single defensive player for this loss. Lack of direction not lack of execution.

I'll say one thing for Maryland: out of the many football stadiums I've been to, including Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State, I thought Maryland had the most beautiful stadium. it was picture-perfect -- an ideal image of what a college football stadium should look like. Unfortunately, I can't generally say the same for their team, including on that day when they lost to Ohio University.
Tony Bandle 10 years, 6 months ago
First of all, let me commend each of you for realizing that LSU has no chance of winning this game since it is being played in Tuscaloosa!!! All the field officials want to get out of the stadium alive!!
Great Calls:
1] Jack Buck's "...go crazy folks, go crazy" after Ozzie Smith's walk-off home run against the Dodgers. 2] Jack Buck's "....I can't believe what I just saw" call on Kirk Gibson's home run against the Oakland A's. 3] Joe Buck's ..." we...will ..see...you..all...tomorrow...night" after David Freeze's walk off home run in game 6. 4] Harry Carey making any home run call.

Kansas at Iowa State KU 24 ISU 23 ISU won big last week but only seems to be able to play good every other week, this is KUs week.
Missouri at Baylor BU 42 MU 28 RG3 goes crazy!!!!!
Texas Tech at Texas TT 21 Tx 10. Get he mack Brown retirement party planned.
LSU at Alabama LSU 28 'bama 17, Miles goes crazy on trickery and wins.
Virginia at Maryland VA 10 Mry 6
Syracuse at UConn If this was a basketball game I'd care!!!!!
Off-the-wall question: What is your favorite call of a play by a sports announcer? Anything Gus Johnson, there are so many from the NCAA tournament and there will be no more since he went to Fox. But here is an old one and a newer one. Enjoy.

Love how we have to go back two years to find a picture of a full stadium.

Against Duke, no less!

Ah...the good old days...when we could beat duke
Marc Frey 10 years, 6 months ago
Have to go with Jack Buck and Kirk Gibson's 1988 WS HR off of Eckersley.
Jayhawk1116 10 years, 6 months ago
"Hawk" Harrelson is the worst announcer ever, and I'm including Joe Buck. "He gone". Totally annoying.
LAJayhawk 10 years, 6 months ago
Ha! Beat me to it.
HawkTronic 10 years, 6 months ago
Vin Scully's silence after Gibson's walk-off in 88 was the best. Didn't spoil the moment, he let the crowd cheer convey the energy.
LAJayhawk 10 years, 6 months ago
No offense, Gary, as I know you are a Sox fan, but Hawk Harrelson is the worst play-by-play guy in the history of baseball.... maybe the history of sports broadcasting. I would like to watch him and Greg Gurley engage in a Who's Worse-athon.... Actually, no I wouldn't.... The only winners in that contest would be the Amish...
But here was the best call ever (delivered in the usual and timeless drunken slur):
Harry Caray: "It's a pop up... CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!" Steve Stone: "Uh... Harry, it's only the 7th inning." Harry: (slight pause) "Whatever Steve."
LAJayhawk 10 years, 6 months ago
Second best:
[With the camera continuously cutting to a couple in the stands making out]
Harry Caray: "I've got it! He's kissing her on the strikes and she's kissing him on the b***s!!"
God, I miss that guy.

I remember that Michigan State KU game. I paid like $170 for a general admin ticket, when I was a student. No one wanted to give up there tickets on campus.
texashawk10 10 years, 6 months ago
"Holy Toledo!" is my favorite expression and Milo Hamilton is one the greatest broadcasters ever in any sport, too bad the Astros are joke of team right now because of the idiot GM and meddlesome owner who hopefully will be gone very shortly. Hamilton's greatest call is without a shadow of a doubt when Hank Aaron hit 715. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vbumo7z3Dg&feature=related.
As for the games:
Iowa St. 45 Kansas 35
The offense should as good as it has since the first quarter against OU, but the defense will of course keep KU from winning
Baylor 48 Missouri 31
Anybody expect a Kansas fan to pick Missouri to win a game ever?
Texas 34 Texas Tech 21
UT's defense was top 30 before playing KU and Texas Tech will get shut down again, but it won't be because they are looking ahead this week.
LSU 24 Alabama 21
As a native of the great state of Louisiana, I am required by birthright to say Geaux Tigers!. Road teams have a ridiculous winning % in this series so I will go with that for my biased justification.
Virginia Who Maryland Cares
Virginia will win, but why is this game on here. A team almost as bad as KU and a middle of the road ACC team, come guys you can give a better game to pick than this.
Syracuse UConn
Seriously guys, 6th place vs. 7th place in the Big East is a game I don't care about. There are quite a few other games that would've been a lot more intriguing than that last 2 on here.
South Carolina @ Arkansas is a top 10 game KSU @ Okie St. is a top 15 game Oregon @ Washington is a very intriguing match up Vandy @ Florida, can Vandy end their losing streak to the Gators Army @ Air Force, always a spectacle when two academies play each other Texas A&M @ OU, the game many though would determine the Big 12 champs Notre Dame @ Wake Forest should be a pretty good game between even teams.
That's 7 games there that are a lot more interesting picks than the last two games you picked.

I've gotta go with the Jayhawks, although it will be close. They will relax knowing that they can only go up from here, and touchdowns will roll. The defense will be so #&#$&)(@# thankfull that they will work even harder, and consequently we'll have KU42 ISU 35
Rock Chalk boys, give 'em a game!
Gary Bedore 10 years, 6 months ago
You guys are nuts. Hawk Harrelson is amazingly good if you are a Sox fan. How many announcers in MLB are willing to rip the good guys, the local team? Hawk will do so. I'm willing to listen if you tell me any other baseball announcers who in this day and age will criticize the team he works for and gets paid by. Of course, Harry Caray was better (he did the Sox before the Cubs) but Harry's one of a century type announcer. Give me Hawk on a nightly basis! Put it on the board, baby. YES!
actorman 10 years, 6 months ago
Great call: anything by Hank Greenwald, the Giants' announcer for 16 years and still the best baseball announcer I've ever heard.
Micky Baker 10 years, 6 months ago
Favorite all time. "The Jayhawks can taste it. Rock Chalk Championship", at the end of the NCAA Title game in 2008.
Bob Davis "Chalmers for 3, Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!. Overtime Overtime".
The entire Royals ninth inning in Game 6 of the 1985 World Series.
Why? The guy that should have been out at first, never scored. The first pitch to Steve Balboni, the first baseman missed a foul ball between first and home near the Royals dugout. Royals had 2 on with one out after Orta was out at third on an attempt to bunt the runners into scoring position with less than 2 outs. The Cards didn't record another out after that. The first guy on base didn't matter, and it led to a 11-0 in Game 7 and a big party in Kansas City.
