Husband of KU softball coach Megan Smith dies

The husband of Kansas University softball coach Megan Smith has died.

Paul Buske died Tuesday after a bout with cancer, according to KU. He was 40.

“The Kansas Athletics family is deeply saddened by Paul’s passing,” said KU athletics director Sheahon Zenger. “He was a terrific husband to Megan and father to Cooper, and was a spirited, supportive fan of Kansas softball. Our thoughts and prayers are with Megan and Cooper during this most difficult time.”

Smith has coached the Jayhawks since 2009.

My heart and prayers go out to Megan, Cooper, and their whole family ... just horrible news. May not know them, but when hearing about a father and husband passing at such a young age, it really hits hard for this (42 year-old) husband and father.

I lost my wife to brain cancer when she was just doesn't make sense. Megan, I truly feel your sorrow and I will put you and your family in my prayers. Just take each day one at a time and let as many people that want to help, help.

I'm sure it doesn't feel like it now but time does heal and comfort. Take care.

Well said, Oakville----and, sorry for the loss of your wife. Megan-- sorry for your loss. Words hardly take the place of how you are feeling right now. My prayers are with you and your family.
