Sophomore Rebecca Swank won two events, helping the Kansas University swimming and diving team to victories over No. 22 Louisiana State (124-92), American (159-48) and Florida International (151-67) on Thursday at Bay Vista Aquatics Complex in Miami.
“Today was a big win for our program,” KU coach Clark Campbell said. “Everyone contributed and it was a good way to conclude our time in Florida.”
Swank, a native of Wichita, won both the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.36) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:12.06).
Meanwhile, senior Iuliia Kuzhil won the 100-yard backstroke (57.56) and swam the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that won with a time of 1:45.31.
Other Jayhawks that won events included junior Shannon Garlie (200-yard freestyle, 1:52.74), and Monica Johannessen (100-yard freestyle, 52.18).
In diving, sophomore Taylor Ilten was second in the one-meter dive, posting a score of 222.37.
KU, which is now 5-4 in dual competition, will compete again Saturday against Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.
