Chris Thompson of Lawrence fired a second-round 67 Friday to put himself in a five-way tie for fourth place at 11-under par halfway through the Midwest Classic, a Nationwide Tour event being played at LionsGate in Overland Park.

Thompson, a former Kansas University golfer, trails co-leaders James Nitties and J.J. Killeen by three strokes and is one stroke behind Brian Vranesh.

Thompson, known for his driving accuracy and length, has not carded worse than a par in the first 36 holes of the event and has 11 birdies, four coming Friday.

He is scheduled to tee off at 10:10 a.m. in today’s third round and will play with Jason Kokrak (-11) and Matthew Giles (-10).
