Kansas senior linebacker Justin Springer was selected as the Big 12’s defensive player of the week, the conference announced Monday.

Springer, a 6-foot-3, 237-pound native of Los Fresnos, Texas, posted a career-high 15 tackles — including three for a loss and one sack — in KU’s 28-25 upset over No. 15 Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Through two games, Springer is averaging 11 tackles per contest, which ranks second in the Big 12 and 20th in the nation.

Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones was named Big 12 offensive player of the week, while Texas Tech’s Eric Stephens was selected as special teams player of the week.
