A few loyal KU football fans turned out for a homecoming pep rally Thursday evening in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street, which was blocked off for the event.

The KU pep band, cheerleading squad and mascots got fans excited for a speech by Turner Gill, KU football coach. The Jayhawks will face Texas A&M this Saturday.

In the crowd was Ardythe Sayers, wife of KU and NFL football great Gale Sayers, who gave Gill some words of encouragement.

“I just told him to keep the faith,” Sayers said.
