Kansas forward Marcus Morris was selected as the Big 12’s player of the week, the conference announced Monday morning.
A 6-foot-9 junior from Philadelphia, Morris averaged 24.5 points and 12.0 rebounds while making 70.8 percent of his shots as KU opened league play with victories over Iowa State and Nebraska.
Morris posted career-highs in points (33) and rebounds (13) against Iowa State on Wednesday before contributing 16 points and 11 rebounds against Nebraska on Saturday, where he also posted his 1,000th collegiate point.
Baylor’s Perry Jones III was selected as the Big 12’s newcomer of the week.

Morris, a 6-foot-9 forward from Philadelphia, averaged 18 points and 7.3 rebounds while making 20 of 32 (62.5 percent) shots from the field. He also tied his career high with 26 points against Ohio on Friday.
Morris’ 19 points per game average is good for fourth in the Big 12. He has been KU’s leading scorer in five of six games this season.
Missouri’s Ricardo Ratliffe picked up the Big 12’s Rookie of the Week honor.
