Florida prep picks KU

All that time Kansas University football coach Turner Gill and his staff spent recruiting Florida during the past six months appears to have paid off.

Rivals.com is reporting that cornerback Chris Robinson, 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, from Lake Mary (Fla.) High, has committed to KU.

Clocked at 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash and with a vertical leap of 34 inches, Robinson is described by his high school coach as having excellent ball skills, terrific off-the-field traits and a physical nature.

Robinson was scheduled to visit Lawrence in the next few weeks, but decided to commit before the trip because of the relationship he built with KU assistant coaches Robert Wimberly (safeties) and Vic Shealy (cornerbacks). He still plans to tour KU’s campus in June.

Robinson, who also stars as a sprinter for the Lake Mary track team, also had been receiving interest from Connecticut, Kentucky, Mississippi, Purdue and Vanderbilt. His only offers, however, came from KU, Georgia Southern and Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Florida junior becomes the fourth player from the Class of 2011 to commit to Kansas, joining running backs Darrian Miller (Blue Springs, Mo.), Dreamius Smith (Wichita Heights) and linebacker Jake Love (Tonkawa, Okla.). Miller has since decommitted from KU, but Gill and Co. remain on his list of possible destinations.

Rankings out Tuesday

Tuesday will mark the beginning of the ranking period for Rivals.com as the first in a series of six release dates will arrive.

The process will begin with the naming of the Rivals100, which ranks the top 100 players in the Class of 2011 throughout the nation. The rankings will broaden and continue from there in the following order: June 2, Rivals250; June 3, the remaining four-star players are named; June 7, offensive-position rankings; June 8, defensive-position rankings; June 14, first round of state-by-state rankings.
