Kansas junior Nate Barbee won his first individual title at the Kansas Men’s Invitational. Barbee carded a 4-under 68 on Tuesday at Alvamar.

Junior Nate Barbee was selected as an individual and will represent the Kansas men’s golf team at the 2010 NCAA Championship Regional on May 20-22 at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in San Diego, Calif.

Barbee’s junior campaign included eight top-10 finishes, with a victory at the Kansas Invitational last fall. Barbee led the team in scoring average at 72.12.

“We are very proud of Nate and what he has been able to accomplish this season,” KU coach Kit Grove said. “We will look forward to watching him compete against the nation’s best at the NCAA Tournament.”

Barbee, who is currently ranked 38th in the Golfstat Cup rankings, is the top-ranked individual selected in the Golfstat Cup standings.

In order to advance to the NCAA Championship, Barbee must be the top-ranked individual that is not on one of the five teams that qualifies. The NCAA Championship will be held June 1-6 at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The Jayhawks were last selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament as a team in 2007.
