Long Beach, Calif. ? Long Beach State overcame a 3-0 first-inning deficit and edged Kansas, 4-3, in college softball Wednesday afternoon.
The Jayhawks outhit the 49ers, 6-4, but fell to 11-13 overall. Long Beach State improved to 11-12.
The 49ers snapped a 3-3 deadlock in the sixth on a wild pitch after a strikeout, a sacrifice, a walk and a fielder’s choice.
First baseman Amanda Jobe and outfielder Rosie Hull each went 2-for-3 at the plate for KU. Both of Jobe’s hits were doubles.
Allie Clark struck out a season-high five batters, but was tagged with the loss.
Kansas will open play in the San Diego Classic at 6:30 p.m. today against UMass. The Jayhawks then will take on Harvard and San Diego State on Friday and close with Illinois-Chicago and San Diego on Saturday.
