? Kansas University’s women’s basketball team missed nine of 10 shots to open Saturday afternoon’s game at Southern Methodist University.

It proved just a minor hurdle for the Jayhawks, who rallied from a 10-2 deficit to beat the Mustangs, 73-65, at Moody Coliseum.

Texas natives Monica Engelman and Keena Mays scored 17 and 10 points for the Jayhawks, who improved to 8-0 (2-0 in opposing gyms) for the first time since the 2005-06 season. SMU fell to 4-3.

Aishah Sutherland posted 12 points while grabbing seven boards and blocking a season-high three shots. SMU’s Delish Willis led all scorers with 22 points.

KU battled back from the early deficit and tied the game at 17, then trailed, 32-31, at halftime. KU, which built a 61-53 lead, led, 65-62, with two minutes left. Sutherland’s jumper gave KU a 69-63 lead and CeCe Harper hit three late free throws to put the game out of reach.
