KU athletic department certified by NCAA

The NCAA Div. I Committee on Athletics Certification announced Thursday that it has certified Kansas University’s athletic department as part of the organization’s ongoing athletics certification process.

The “certified” designation means KU operates its athletics program in “substantial conformity with operating principles adopted by the Division I membership of the NCAA.” Each of the NCAA’s 335 Division I schools undergoes the self-study every 10 years.

“NCAA certification is an exhaustive process involving not only the athletics program but also the various parts of the university that interact with athletics,” KU Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little said. “Receiving certification is a testament to the quality of our university overall. I’m very proud of our student-athletes, our athletics administrators and coaches, and the other members of the KU community who work on a daily basis to live up to the high standards we set for ourselves.”
