SPRINGFIELD, MO. ? Freshman Thomas Taylor struck out a career-high eight batters, and the Kansas University baseball team swept the season series from Missouri State with a 6-4 victory on Tuesday at Hammons Field.
Taylor improved to 3-0 and allowed just one hit over five innings. He retired 15 of the 16 batters he faced.
KU senior Robby Price went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and three RBIs to lead the Jayhawks offense.
Kansas snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 20-13-1 overall. The Bears dropped their fourth straight and fell to 12-20.
KU also defeated Missouri State on March 31 in Lawrence.
Price extended his career-best hitting streak to 18 games, which ties him for the seventh longest in KU history. It’s the second-longest streak in the Big 12 this season.
The Jayhawks took a 6-0 lead on an RBI single by Brett Lisher and a Jimmy Waters sacrifice fly.
After the Bears rallied to cut the lead to 6-3, KU sophomore reliever Colton Murray pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth inning. Murray picked up his third save.
The Jayhawks will travel to Nebraska to take on the Cornhuskers for a three-game series at Haymarket Park beginning at 6:35 p.m. Friday.
