Former KU guards Russell Robinson and Billy Thomas will be playing for Team NBA in the 2009 NBA Asia Challenge, which starts Saturday in Seoul, Korea. It’s a team of NBA developmental league players and former NBA players.
The U.S. squad will play the KBL All Stars on Saturday and ET Iland Backslammers on Sunday in Korea, then play the PBA All-Stars on Sept. 11 in the Philippines.
Robinson, who played for Reno last year and Thomas, who played for Colorado in the NBA Developmental League last year, will be joined on Team NBA by fellow D-League players Derrick Dial, Chris Ellis, Marcus Hubbard and Lanny Smith. NBA legends Tim Hardaway, Robert Horry, Dominique Wilkins, and Vlade Divac also will be on the squad.
Dakota coach Rory White will coach the team and be assisted by NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
