KU women’s basketball team to play in Junkanoo Jam

Kansas University’s women’s basketball team will compete in the 2009 Junkanoo Jam on Grand Bahama Island, according to Basketball Travelers, Inc. The event, scheduled for Nov. 26-28, is in its seventh year, and the Jayhawks will be competing in it for the first time.

Kansas, playing in the Freeport Division of the 12-team tourney, will face Xavier in the opening round on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 26). The Jayhawks and Musketeers will tip off at 3:30 p.m. (CST), with Minnesota and TCU playing at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27. On Saturday, Nov. 28, the two winners will meet at 2:15 p.m., with the consolation game being played at noon.

The event consists of three separate divisions. Each is a four-team, two-game championship/consolation format. In addition to the Freeport Division, the other two divisions are the Reef Division and Lucaya Division. The field for the Reef Division consists of UNC-Charlotte, South Dakota State, Indiana and Virginia, while the Lucaya Division fields George Washington, Michigan State, Oklahoma State and Marist.
