Regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s regular season finale against No. 11 Kansas State, the Kansas University baseball team will open next week’s Big 12 tournament with a game against the Wildcats.
As of Sunday evening, all of the conference’s games had been completed with the exception of KU-K-State, meaning the outcome of the game will determine the final seedings of the tournament — but not the Jayhawks’ opponent.
If KU (36-19, 14-12 in the Big 12) wins Sunday night’s game, which kicks off at 6 p.m. at Hoglund Ballpark, the Jayhawks will be the No. 5 seed with K-State (39-14-1, 14-10-1) as the No. 4. If the Jayhawks lose, they’ll be the No. 6 seed, with the Wildcats No. 3.
Oklahoma has wrapped up the No. 2 spot, meanwhile, while Texas, who KU swept earlier this season, will be the tournament’s top seed.
The Big 12 championships run from May 20-24 in Oklahoma City.
