KU baseball’s rally not enough

? Kansas University’s baseball team rallied from a three-run deficit in the eighth inning, but couldn’t close it out against Texas A&M.

Caleb Shofner’s RBI single with one out in the ninth inning lifted Texas A&M to a 7-6 victory on Saturday at Olsen Field.

The Jayhawks fell to 15-9 overall and 3-2 in Big 12 play, while Texas A&M improved to 17-9 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

The Aggies scored the winning run in the ninth after a hit batsman, an error and a single to earn their fourth straight victory. A&M scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on Luke Anders’ fourth home run of the season.

Kansas had opportunities to take the lead, but left the bases loaded in the seventh and eighth innings. In the top of the eighth, with Texas A&M leading, 6-3, Casey Lytle singled, and Jimmy Waters scored. Robby Price and Brian Heere then drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks to tie the score.

Kansas put the go-ahead run on first base in the ninth, but couldn’t get him home.

Preston Land, David Narodowski and Tony Thompson had two hits apiece for KU.

The Jayhawks and Aggies will play their final game of the series at 12:05 p.m. today.
