Bob was a sportswriter’s dream, a terrific interview on any topic involving college athletics. He was always there to help, including in May 2008 when classes were ending and students were lined up outside his office. Bob still cleared an hour of his schedule to tell me stories I used in my book on the history of Kansas basketball. When my son Joe decided to study sports management at KU, Bob met with our family and explained the program like no one else could. When Joe needed academic advice, Bob was there for him. Just last month, Bob and I exchanged e-mails on Facebook after Sam Miranda passed away. Gary Bedore’s article was pasted into the message and he wished me a good summer. I wish I could be in Lawrence for the celebration of Bob’s life. The Davis family misses him and the Frederick family is in our thoughts. Bob Frederick was a great Jayhawk and I’m proud I knew him.
