Kansas University running back Jake Sharp was selected as one of 45 preseason candidates for the 2009 Doak Walker Award, given each year to the nation’s top running back.
Sharp, a senior from Salina, earned Big 12 honorable mention accolades at running back last season after rushing for 860 yards. His 88.8 rushing yards per game during the conference season also ranked third in the league.
Sharp was one of seven Big 12 running backs named to the Walker preseason list, joining Texas Tech’s Baron Batch, Oklahoma’s Chris Brown, Texas A&M’s Cyrus Gray, Nebraska’s Roy Helu Jr., Oklahoma State’s Kendall Hunter and Oklahoma’s DeMarco Murray.
