Lawrence ranks among five “great college basketball towns to visit,” according to CNN.com.

The home to Kansas University is No. 2 on the list, behind two towns that share the top spot: Durham, N.C., which is home to Duke University; and Chapel Hill, N.C., home of the University North Carolina.

Nos. 3-5, respectively: Bloomington, Ind., home of Indiana University; Milwaukee, Wis.. home of Marquette University; and Spokane, Wash., home of Gonzaga University.

The list and descriptions of each community appear on CNN.com.

“CNN, with the help of experts at the NCAA, chose a handful of basketball towns filled with great fans, rich traditions and history that make these places worth a visit,” the site says.

Lawrence’s attributes, according to the site, include the “old-school” existence of Allen Fieldhouse, the adjacent Booth Family Hall of Athletics, and the collection of restaurants and bars along “colorful” Massachusetts Street.
