Texas Rangers third baseman Travis Metcalf was scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday in Dallas to repair a torn hamstring muscle.
Metcalf, a Kansas University product who is the school’s career home run leader, is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks. He was injured running the bases Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Metcalf was 7-for-17 with two home runs before he was injured. He hit .255 with five home runs and 21 RBIs in 57 games for the Rangers last year.
