The Kansas University women’s basketball team’s rough start to the Big 12 slate got no smoother Wednesday night, as No. 6 Baylor slugged Bonnie Henrickson’s squad 59-35 in Waco, Texas.

The Jayhawks drop to 0-3 in conference play and 11-5 overall.

Foul trouble again showed up on the final box score, but the Jayhawks’ two best post threats – sophomore Danielle McCray and senior Taylor McIntosh – were still able to play 30-plus minutes each. KU’s problem was for the most part on the offensive end. KU connected on just 15 of 46 shot attempts, made one of 10 three-point looks and was only 4-of-12 from the free throw line. The 35 points were the fewest scored by a KU team in Bonnie Henrickson’s four seasons on the job.

Sophomore LaChelda Jacobs, playing in her home state, was KU’s top finisher with nine points and six rebounds. McIntosh scored eight, while McCray chipped in six.

Baylor wasn’t much better offensively, hitting just 18 of 56 shots, but BU outrebounded KU 46-31 and made 21-of-24 free throws.

The Jayhawks play host to Missouri Saturday at 2 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse.
