Miami, here we come

Journal-World KU reporter Jonathan Kealing is covering the fans in and on their way to Miami for the Jayhawks' first ever BCS bowl game. Check out some pitstops and potholes on the way to Miami and keep up with Journal-World Orange Bowl coverage from Miami on our interactive road trip map.

5:15 - Aqib Talib 60 interception return. Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor - the weaker passer of VT's two-quarterback system - delivered a quick throw to Justin Harper on a second-down out route. Talib jumped in front of the pass, picked it and was off down the sideline. He went untouched for six points, but received an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty for doing a Deion Sanders high-step the final 10 yards. Scott Webb kick. (Kansas 7, Virginia Tech 0).

12:00 - Scott Webb 32 field goal. KU freshman Chris Harris intercepted a Sean Glennon pass to give the Jayhawks the ball with great field position. Kansas went just 17 yards on seven plays, and Webb came in and chipped the field goal through to make up for his missed kick in the first quarter. (Kansas 10, Virginia Tech 0).

7:03 - Marcus Henry 13 pass from Todd Reesing. The Jayhawks faced a third-and-19 at one point in the 10-play drive, but got 18 yards on a Jake Sharp reception and then converted on fourth down the next play. Four plays later, Reesing found Henry on the right side near the goal line, and Henry caught it while falling into the end zone. Scott Webb kick. (Kansas 17, Virginia Tech 0).

1:24 - Branden Ore 1 run. Virginia Tech made no secret that Ore would be its horse for this 13-play drive. Ore ran 49 yards on 11 carries by himself, always getting positive yardage on his runs. The last was a simple carry up the middle, where Ore crossed the goal line standing up. Jud Dunlevy kick. (Kansas 17, Virginia Tech 7).

11:35 - Justin Harper 84 punt return. KU's opening drive of the second half stalled, bringing Virginia Tech's dangerous special-teams unit on to the field. Tucker punted to VT's Eddie Royal, who sprinted to his right and handed the ball to Harper on a reverse. Harper sprinted up the left sideline, making his way through congestion unfazed. Micah Brown made a desperate lunge for Harper's feet inside the five-yard line, but Harper eluded it. Dunlevy kick. (Kansas 17, Virginia Tech 14).

10:57 - Reesing 2 run. Kansas received a much-needed jolt thanks to its defense. On third down, VT quarterback Sean Glennon overthrew a pass that was intercepted by Justin Thornton at the VT 32. Thornton returned it 30 yards, setting up KU's one-play, two-yard drive. Reesing kept a play-action and bullied his way into the end zone on the right side, celebrating wildly when he got up. Webb kick. (Kansas 24, Virginia Tech 14).

3:00 - Justin Harper 20 pass from Sean Glennon. The Hokies stormed downfield, surviving fourth downs and a swarming Kansas defense to go 78 yards on 15 plays. The final play was a bullet pass to the right side of the field. Harper came down with it in traffic and stepped over the goal line. Dunlevy kick. (Kansas 24, Virginia Tech 21).
