? The University of Hawaii at Hilo won 4-3 and 12-4 to sweep a baseball doubleheader from Kansas University on Saturday at Simmons Field.

UH-Hilo leapt out in front with a three-run second inning in Game 1. KU scraped back single runs in the fifth and sixth, sending the game to extra innings, only to see the result thrown away when a Paul Smyth throwing error allowed a run in the bottom of the eighth.

Brett Bollman took the loss for Kansas. Nick Faunce went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two of his team’s three runs.

A seven-run fifth inning broke open Game 2 as Jayhawks coach Ritch Price changed up his lineup.

Price used nine pitchers Saturday, with only Game 2 starter Nick Czyz going longer than three innings. Czyz (0-1) was charged with six runs and eight hits, walking three hitters and striking out three in 42â3 innings.

The Jayhawks (1-2) wrap up their stay on the Big Island today with their second 10 a.m. doubleheader in two days.
