South Bend, Ind. ? Luke Harangody had 23 points and 12 rebounds, Tory Jackson added 16 points and 13 rebounds and No. 21 Notre Dame overcame an 11-point deficit in the second half to beat Pittsburgh, 82-70, on Thursday night.
The Fighting Irish trailed, 51-40, with just under 14 minutes left. Notre Dame responded with a 21-10 run, tying the game at 61 on a three-pointer by Kyle McAlarney with 5:49 left. The Irish then took control with a 14-3 run and took a 75-64 lead.
Notre Dame (20-5, 10-3 Big East) ran its streak of consecutive home wins in league play to 16 games, tying Georgetown (1987-90) for the second longest such streak in the conference. Pittsburgh won 20 straight at home from 2001-2004.
The Irish have won 35 straight overall at home, three shy of tying the school record.
The Panthers (19-7, 7-6), who fell out of the rankings for the first time in two years after a 72-54 loss at Marquette last Friday, lost two straight for the first time since December 2006.
Sam Young led Pittsburgh with 20 points.
No. 10 Xavier 75, Duquesne 48
Cincinnati – Derrick Brown and C.J. Anderson had double-doubles Thursday night in a balanced offense that hardly missed injured point guard Drew Lavender, as Xavier defeated Duquesne for its ninth straight win.
Brown finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Anderson had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Stanley Burrell filled in at point guard when Lavender was on the bench and had a career-high 12 assists.
Lavender played only 14 minutes and had five points. His sprained left ankle has limited him in the last three games.
Reggie Jackson had 12 points for Duquesne (16-9, 6-6), which hadn’t scored fewer than 59 in a game all season.
Xavier moved into the Top 10 this week for the first time in five years, then won at Rhode Island on Monday, starting a stretch of three games in seven days. Duquesne’s last win on the road over a Top 10 team came on March 5, 1962, a 73-72 victory over No. 6 Bradley.
No. 17 Washington St. 59, Arizona St. 47
Pullman, Wash. – Derrick Low scored 15 points and No. 17 Washington State relied on the Pac-10’s best defense to shut down Arizona State on Thursday night.
Aron Baynes and Taylor Rochestie both had 10 points and six rebounds for Washington State (21-5, 9-5), which won its fourth straight, the longest current streak in the conference.
Freshman James Harden, who averages 18 points per game, had 10 points to lead the Sun Devils (16-9, 6-7), who were held 21 points below their season average.
Washington State held Arizona State to 33 percent shooting.
No. 6 UCLA 84, Oregon St. 49
Los Angeles – Russell Westbrook scored 17 points, Darren Collison had 14 points and nine assists and No. 6 UCLA routed Oregon State on Thursday night to increase its lead in the Pac-10 to one game.
Kevin Love had 11 points and nine rebounds, just missing his 16th double-double for the Bruins (23-3, 11-2), who gained on idle Stanford.
Josh Tarver scored 10 points for Oregon State (6-20, 0-14), which lost its 16th in a row overall and seventh straight to the Bruins.
UCLA shot 55 percent from the field, its best effort since hitting 57 percent against Arizona on Feb. 2.
UCLA Coach Ben Howland relied on his bench most of the way, giving rare minutes to freshman Chace Stanback and sophomores Nikola Dragovic and Mustafa Abdul-Hamid.
