? Amanda Jobe launched the Jayhawks’ fourth home run of the weekend to lead the Kansas University softball team to a 5-3 victory over BYU Saturday morning during the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic.

The victory improved KU to 3-0 at the tournament and pushed the Jayhawks’ record to 8-1 on the season. The Cougars fell to a 7-2.

BYU scored first with a run in the opening frame, but Elle Pottorf answered for the Jayhawks in their first at-bat with an RBI line drive to right field.

The Cougars used a two-run homer in the second to take back the lead at 3-1, but it didn’t stick for long.

The Jayhawks strung together three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-3 lead. Jobe then hit a pitch over the right-field fence to lead off the fifth inning and give KU a two-run cushion.

Sarah Vertelka opened the game pitching two complete innings and allowing all three of BYU’s runs.

Freshman Allie Clark pitched the final five innings in relief, holding the Cougars scoreless for her second save in two days. The freshman notched six strikeouts in relief.

Kansas will wrap up tournament play today with an 11 a.m. game against Seton Hall and host UNLV at 1:15 p.m.
