College Station, Texas ? Texas A&M senior Megan Gibson pitched her first no-hitter to lead the Aggies to a 14-0 Big 12 Conference softball rout of Kansas University on Saturday that was shortened to five innings by the run rule.
The game was witnessed by 1,837 fans, the fourth-largest crowd in Aggies history.
Gibson walked one and struck out seven in improving to 26-1.
Dougie McCaulley drew the walk in the first inning.
The only other Jayhawk to reach base was Addy Lucero, who was hit by a pitch in the top of the third.
Gibson also went 2-for-2 at the plate, with two runs and three RBIs.
The Aggies (41-7 overall, 13-1 Big 12) collected 10 hits off three KU pitchers, including loser Valerie George (16-6). George surrendered six runs – five earned – off four hits over 21â3 innings.
The Jayhawks fell to 30-14 and 4-7.
A&M went up, 2-0, in the second and 6-0 in the third befor stringing together six hits to plate eight runs in the fourth.
The teams will conclude the series with a single game at noon today.
