Run on KU campus for cancer support

By Staff     Apr 11, 2008

A 5K fun run and walk on the Kansas University campus Sunday morning will benefit Devin McAnderson, who is battling myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of leukemia.

McAnderson, a 2001 Lawrence High School graduate, is the brother of former KU running back Brandon McAnderson.

The run through campus begins at 10 a.m. at the north end of Allen Fieldhouse. It will end near the Anderson Family Strength Center, 1575 Irving Hill Road. Several KU athletes are expected to volunteer to help and participate in the run.

Anyone can make late registration from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for students, volunteers or children.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is a sponsor for the event, along with several other KU organizations. Former KU Athletic Director Bob Frederick is the honorary chairman.

Participants can register and also make donations to help with Devin McAnderson’s medical expenses online at www.sportkc.org/events/DevinsRun.htm.
