I am probably among the few who live in Lawrence who graduated from University of North Carolina. During WWII, as a Navy enlisted man, I was sent to UNC as an officer candidate and received a commission as Ensign, USNR upon graduation. Much later in life I worked in hospital administration at KU Med School and retired, moving to Lawrence. I always have happy memories of Chapel Hill, where I also lettered in track.
Since I moved to Lawrence and joined the KU retirees club, which is now known as the Endicott Society, several family members have graduated from KU. One of my daughters, a KU graduate, lived in Brussels, Belgium for five years and recently moved to Chapel Hill. Her husband is a Stanford PhD in physics and works for Intel.
My grandson, Jonathen Lamb, graduated from KU last May as an honors student and was a member of the KU football team for four years and is now in KU Med School. His younger sister, Jamie Lamb, also graduated with honors in May and now works for a company in Kuwait, which border Iraq. A third grandchild, Hannah Noe, began here as a freshman in August. So you can see I have many ties to KU and I will cheer for KU to win.
But I understand Roy William’s deep attachment to Chapel Hill and North Carolina. It is a wonderful place. Please remember that his departure resulted in our getting Bill Self.
