We are responding to your request for rituals that people might have that helps the Jayhawks be successful.
OK, we admit that we might caused KU to lose to K-State this year, but NEVER again. That was one game we broke our ritual!
Every game for more than a decade, we make cinnamon popcorn and eat it as we watch KU. Yes, we have been known to take the popcorn popper and ingredients into hotel rooms on vacation or to friends’ houses if it so happens that we won’t be home during a KU game. They do seem to do better if we are at home, but sometimes that is out of our control.
This has become such a ritual, that we now have family and friends calling to make sure that we have popped a good batch for some of our most difficult opponents’ games. We’re sure to get many calls before the KU-UNC game. We’re dieting, but hey, we’ll have to take a pound or two for the team!
We would love to have others join us in this tradition so we are enclosing our recipe: We encourage everyone to use it on Saturday and Monday’s games!
Red Hot Jayhawk Popcorn
2 T. vegetable oil
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
1/4 cup red hots
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon oil (available at Byrne’s Pharmacy in Eudora) or at candy making vendors
Put all ingredients in a ‘Stir Crazy’ popper or any popper you can manually stir. While the last kernels pop, quickly remove. Popcorn is ready for tipoff!
